Octopus Class - Year 5

Welcome to Octopus Class.

Welcome to Octopus Class, the teacher in Octopus class is Ms Murphy and we have a TA Miss Creed who helps in class. She will work with some of you on a 1:1 level, in small groups or supporting the whole class.

Timetable

Our timetable is packed with a variety of lessons each day, the format of all of our mornings will remain the same to ensure that the children know how to settle in daily. We are lucky enough to have a visiting Music teacher who will teach the children the Ukulele, throughout the year.

We have PE on a Monday which is Swimming for the first few terms so you will need to remember your swimming kit every Monday. After that the PE schedule will change.

Focus

We will be focusing on times tables throughout the year all, children will work towards gaining gold certificates as well as developing the speed of recall of certain mathematical facts for the preparation of Year 6. Ultimately our aim for Year Five is to get the children ready for Year Six and the next steps in their learning journey. I hope that you will support this journey too at home.

Communication

Communication via ClassDojo is an excellent way to communicate with the staff in Octopus class as we don’t always see you at drop off or collection. This way parents can communicate about changes to routine, collections and other events that may have an impact on their child’s learning. We will also post frequently on Dojo the events happening in class be it attendance awards, excellent work, worship to parents or an update on our weekly learning.

Worship

A daily worship is organised for every afternoon, it may be singing, whole school worship or class worship. Each term each class participates in a worship where parents are invited in. This is generally a whole school focus or a specific event. Please look out for information via ClassDojo and the schools Face Book page for the dates of our class worships.

Support at home

You could support your child at home by listening to them read daily, quizzing times tables and supporting with spellings. Each term there is a focus and in the Termly curriculum Overviews there are suggestions of books to read together, places to visit and other things you could do to support learning throughout the term.
